4 cups Oil, for frying

How to make Cherry Cheesecake Wontons
In a large bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered icing sugar, vanilla extract and greek yogurt
until smooth and well-combined.
Lay a few wontons out on a cutting board and place a wet paper towel over the remaining wonton wrappers to keep them from drying out.
Scoop 1 teaspoon of the cheesecake filling and 1 teaspoon of the cherry pie filling onto the center of each wonton wrapper.
Brush the edges of each wonton wrapper with a bit of water and then folder over into a triangle shape, pressing to seal and remove all air from the wonton.
Repeat with all wontons wrappers.
Place the cooking oil in a heavy pan or dutch oven and heat to 300F.
Fry the wontons 3-4 at a time until lightly golden, flipping over halfway through cooking, about 3 minutes each batch.
Repeat until all wontons are fried.
Don’t they look amazing? This is a delicious treat for any get together or for an afternoon snack. These are sweet, delicious and incredibly unique!
What if I want to bake these wontons?
Here’s how you can bake them instead:
-
Preheat your oven to around 375 °F (190 °C).
-
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a lightly greased baking sheet.
-
Place the filled and sealed wontons on the tray, spaced so they’re not touching.
-
Optionally brush or spray the tops lightly with oil or melted butter (this helps get a golden, crispy finish).
-
Bake for about 10-15 minutes, until the wrappers are golden and crisp. Keep an eye on them baking times vary by oven and wrapper thickness.
-
Let them cool a minute or two before serving (the filling will be hot).
Things to watch out for
-
Wonton wrappers can dry out or burn if too exposed; baking gives less even browning than frying, so using oil or butter helps.
-
Because this is a sweet dessert filling, the cherry pie filling may become more liquid during baking. Make sure you don’t over-fill the wrappers or they may leak.
-
The original fried version gives a very crisp shell; baked will be slightly different texture , still good, but a bit less “fry crunch”.
The flavor will be the same, with slight texture differences.
