Realizing my child needed more help than I could give at home was one of those moments.
I never thought I would be here. I never thought I would be writing a Guardian Montville Adolescent Center review. And the truth is—no parent should ever have to go through something like this.
Placing your child in an adolescent treatment center isn’t something you plan for. It’s what you do when you’re out of options… when you’re scared… when you’re holding onto whatever hope you can find.
It’s fear.

And like so many parents searching for the best rehab for teens, I truly believed I was doing the right thing.

What the Intake Process Was Like
The intake process begins with a phone call where staff ask a large number of questions about your child, their history, and your current situation. At the end of that call, you are given a time to come in for an in-person intake.
When you arrive, your child is taken in for an initial interview with staff to determine whether they are considered a “good fit” for the program. After that evaluation, you are brought back in to continue the intake process.
At that point, clinical screenings are conducted, including testing for substances, pregnancy, and other standard assessments.
You are also asked to complete and sign a significant amount of paperwork. During this process, there are often multiple questions being asked at the same time, which can make it difficult to fully read and process each document before signing. The pace can feel very fast, and it may be challenging to thoroughly review all details while managing the volume of information being presented.
For parents, this can be an overwhelming experience—especially given the circumstances that brought you there in the first place.
The Cost of Guardian Montville Adolescent Center
Before admission, we were told one cost.
What we were not prepared for was what actually happened.
After just two days, we were told our child was “not a good fit” and asked to leave.
We later found out they were billing our insurance approximately $5,500 per day

We were then left responsible for a portion of that cost. ($1,227) when we were told before going there we would have to pay $6500 total for 35-40 days of treatment.
There was no clear breakdown, no real transparency, and no clear explanation of what would happen financially if our child was discharged early.

What made the situation even more difficult was the way communication was handled.
When I asked for an itemized bill, I was provided with a general statement that did not clearly explain the charges. When I asked for further clarification, I was told:
“I was raised to pay my bills even when I didn’t agree with them.”
That response made it clear that questions were not always welcomed.
As a parent trying to understand a significant financial responsibility, that was incredibly frustrating and disheartening.
No parent should feel dismissed for asking questions—especially in a situation like this.

This experience was heartbreaking, stressful, and deeply disappointing.
We went in trying to help our child.
We left feeling:

Not every adolescent treatment center is what it appears to be.
And when you’re in the position of trying to save your child, you don’t always have the clarity or time you wish you did.
So if you can, slow down.
Ask the uncomfortable questions.
Push for real answers.
Advocate for your family, even when it feels hard.
Because when it comes to your child and your finances, you deserve transparency, compassion, and honesty.
You deserve to be treated like a parent doing everything you can… not like a problem to manage.
And from our experience, it’s important to be especially cautious with larger, corporate-run facilities. The care can feel cold, scripted, and disconnected—at a time when you need the exact opposite.
I’m sure there are families who benefit from programs like this. But not every child fits neatly into a system, and sometimes it can feel like those who are easier to manage receive the most support—while the ones who need deeper, more individualized help are the ones who struggle the most.
No family should have to fight this hard just to get help.
And no parent should walk away feeling the way we did.
