Almond Valentine Cookies Recipe – How To Make Cookies Shaped Like Hearts
I LOVE these cookies. The almond flavor with the crunch has me coming back for more and more. These cookies are adorable and really are the perfect Valentine’s Day cookie. I love that this simple cookie recipe is one that we can make together as a family. It’s become quite a fun tradition in our house that we look forward to every year!
Since these cookies aren’t filled in all the way, they’re the perfect cookie to grab onto and hold. The reddish-pink coloring and heart shape proves that food really is the way to a person’s heart!
These are fun to add to lunch boxes or to give to family and friends as a homemade Valentine’s Day gift. There’s no better gift than hand-delivered warm cookies!
Almond Valentine Cookies Recipe
What you’ll need to make these Valentine Cookies:
- 1 stick (½ cup) soft Butter
- ½ cup Shortening
- 1 cup Confectioners Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 1 ½ tsp Almond Extract
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 ½ cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tsp Salt
- Red Food Color
- Pink Food Color
- 2 baking sheets *light pans preferred – if using dark pans watch closely that the bottom of the the cookie does not become too dark

How to make Valentine’s Day Cookies
- Separate dough into two bowls.
Mix several drops of red food color into one until the desired color is achieved.
Almond Cookie Tips & Tricks
- Make sure that you’re not overworking the dough. Mix it enough to where it’s mixed, and that’s it!
- Have fun changing up the colors of the dough. Add in more or less drops of red and create a cool look!

These heart shaped almond cookies are so much fun to make!
Ingredients
- 1 stick (½ cup) soft Butter
- ½ cup Shortening
- 1 cup Confectioners Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 1 ½ tsp Almond Extract
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 ½ cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tsp Salt
- Red Food Color
- Pink Food Color
- 2 baking sheets *light pans preferred – if using dark pans watch closely that the bottom of the the cookie does not become too dark

Instructions
Heat oven to 375°• Beat together butter and shortening.
Blend in confectioners sugar.
Mix in egg and vanilla extract.
Mix in almond extract.
Blend in flour and salt.
Separate dough into two bowls.
Mix several drops of red food color into one until the desired color is achieved.
Mix in several drops of pink food color into the other bowl until the desired color is achieved.
Taking a small portion of dough, roll a thin rope of each color and form a heart-shaped cookie.
To create different looks: Twist the rope before creating the cookie shape or roll two strands together in the same color or combine red and pink to make a two-tone heart-shaped cookie.
Bake 9 minutes or until cookies are firm. Let cookies sit on a cookie sheet and cool a few minutes before moving to the cooling rack.
Store in a covered container for several days, if they last that long!
