8 Surprising Ways to Use Toothpaste to Clean Your Home
Did you know that the humble tube of toothpaste sitting on your bathroom counter can do so much more than just keep your teeth clean and bright? Believe it or not, toothpaste can be a powerful and versatile cleaning agent for tackling tough spots and bringing the shine back to your home. In fact, in some cases, it might even outperform your go-to household cleaners! Not only does it help keep your teeth clean and healthy.
It helps you keep your home clean!
From restoring your faucets’ sparkle to removing stubborn stains, toothpaste proves its worth as a surprising cleaning superstar. Here are 8 ingenious ways to use toothpaste to clean your home and make your chores a little easier.
A Few Quick Tips Before You Begin:
For the best results, stick to using white, non-gel toothpaste. These tend to work better for cleaning and won’t leave behind unwanted residue. Naturally derived toothpastes might not be as effective for these uses, so keep that in mind as you dive into your cleaning projects.
1. Polish Your Sink to Perfection
Transform your porcelain sink from dull to dazzling with toothpaste! Apply a small amount directly to the sink bowl and scrub it in with an old toothbrush or scrub brush. Rinse thoroughly, wipe it dry, and watch your sink gleam!
2. Banish Crayon Marks from Walls
Got a budding artist at home? Don’t sweat the crayon murals on your walls. A bit of toothpaste on a damp cloth will lift those marks in no time. Just gently rub, then wipe clean with a fresh cloth.
3. Revive Your Piano Keys
Keep your piano keys looking pristine with toothpaste. Gently rub a damp cloth with toothpaste over the keys, buff with a dry cloth, and marvel at their restored shine.
4. Shine Up Chrome Fixtures
Tired of dull, water-spotted chrome? Toothpaste works wonders here too! Rub it onto the chrome with a dry cloth, then buff to reveal a sparkling finish.
5. Erase Water Rings on Wood Furniture
Forgot a coaster? No problem! Buff a small amount of toothpaste into water rings on wood furniture, then wipe clean and dry. Follow up with polish for an extra gleam.
6. Lift Permanent Marker Stains from Wood
Accidentally marked your furniture with permanent marker? Apply toothpaste with a damp cloth, scrub gently, and wipe away. Repeat as needed for those tougher stains.
7. Polish Tarnished Silver
Say goodbye to expensive silver polish! Rub toothpaste onto tarnished silver, then buff with a clean cloth to restore its shine.
8. Brighten Grimy Grout
Whitening toothpaste isn’t just for your teeth! Scrub it into grout with an old toothbrush to lift dirt and brighten tiles. Wipe clean with a damp cloth as you go to prevent dried residue.

From scuffed sneakers to scratched CDs, toothpaste can work miracles in unexpected ways. Try these out and see just how versatile your toothpaste can be!

Great tips. Thanks for sharing them.
I’m not sure I knew any of these!! So helpful!! I was just wondering what I could use to clean our piano keys.. they definitely need some TLC.
great hacks to try with toothpaste.. who knew it could be used in other ways than your mouth? my kids may be on to something. lol
Cleaning piano keys… What a great idea!
Seriously all genius!! Especially the grout one!! SUCH a major pain!! This is crazy!! Cannot believe Ive never thought of toothpaste before!!!
I didn’t know that about the crayon and marker, that’s great tips. I would however say I think for the piano keys it’s probably not meaning ivory keys, like I have, and a lot of people likely still have if they have older pianos. Correct me if I’m wrong, though, I’d love something I could clean ivory keys with!
Thank you for the tips!
I have so much cleaning to do before this little one shows up… definitely need to try some of these out!
