Walking Nachos
Looking for the ultimate party food or camping food that’s fun to make, easy to clean up, and guaranteed to be a hit with kids and adults alike? Look no further than Walking Nachos—also known as Walking Tacos! This fun and flavorful twist on classic taco recipes is perfect for game day, birthday parties, taco night, or just a quick and satisfying dinner on busy nights.
What makes this easy walking taco recipe a standout? It all starts with a bag of chips—Fritos or Doritos, your choice! Whether you love the bold crunch of a Frito bag or the cheesy goodness of nacho cheese Doritos or Cool Ranch Doritos, these crunchy chips serve as the base for a delicious deconstructed taco.
Then comes the fun part: layering in your favorite taco toppings. Start by cooking your ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, then add taco seasoning, chili powder, or even a spoon of tomato paste for an extra punch of flavor. For a lighter version, try ground turkey or even shredded chicken or a vegetarian mix of black beans, pinto beans, and green chiles.
Also Known as Walking Tacos
Once your taco meat is ready, it’s time to assemble! Use scissors to cut open the tops of 10 individual chip bags (either Doritos or Fritos). Fold down the tops to create a little taco bowl right in the bag—yes, this is the viral TikTok make you’ve probably seen! Add a scoop of taco meat, then layer on refried beans, nacho cheese sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, salsa, and jalapeño slices. You can also toss in green onions, red onion, black olives, bell pepper, or a squeeze of lime juice for some fresh toppings.
For those hosting a crowd, set up a walking taco bar where guests can build their own creations with all their favorite taco ingredients. It’s a great idea for football games, high school events, or any time you want a perfect party food without the hassle. Don’t forget the disposable forks—this easy way to enjoy tacos doesn’t require plates, and clean up is a breeze!
Got leftovers? Store extra ingredients like the beef mixture or toppings in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2-3 days. They’re great for making more walking tacos or even a next-day taco salad with tortilla chips.
Whether it’s your first time making these or you’ve been serving them up since your days of chili cheese fries in the school cafeteria, Walking Nachos are a fun and flexible dish that everyone will love.
