Decorating for Christmas doesn’t have to be hard, or tacky! Here are some stylish Christmas decoration ideas perfect for everything Merry & Bright!
‘Tis the season to be stylish! Christmas decoration ideas!
We say this every December: “Where has the year gone?” It seems only last week we had the buckets and spades out, the cooler packed for a picnic and a glass or two of something nice and cold to enjoy in the garden when the kids had finally gone to bed!
But it would seem that Christmas has worked its way around once again – and love it or loathe it, there are plenty of ways to have your home feeling festive and ready to welcome in the season…and the mess…and the carol singers…and the in-laws…!! Take a look at some of our top decoration tips.
Decorate the outside of your home
If you’re hoping to do something a little different this year – or expand your outdoor Christmas decoration box, then why not consider some festive signage? Christmas metal signs you can make are ideal in this scenario, a large red sign that reads – Santa stop here – is a cute and quirky way to bring in the festive cheer – and to help your little ones believe just for a little longer…!
Create something classic
Remember when we were kids and most decorations were made of foil and stretched from one end of the room to the other? Nowadays it seems to be all flashing lights and stylish, designer trees that no one is allowed to touch! Well, why not bring back a classic Christmas feel – and create some pretty homemade decorations?
A wonderful activity you can do with the kids to make it extra special, something like a simple paperchain made of brightly coloured card, throw on some glitter and you’re good to go. These can go anywhere too – so if your tree is looking a little sparse or you want to decorate a doorframe or mirror, coat the house in homemade crafts!
And as the kids get older, when the decorations appear again it’s an extra special touch for you and your family to look back on and smile.
The Christmas Table
Usually on the big day, we can’t see the table, thanks to the mountains of food, paper hats and Christmas cracker debris scattered everywhere. But before the magical day arrives there’s nothing to stop you decorating the table and letting everyone know that Christmas is just one less sleep away. Find a table cloth that’s festive, or one with a bright colour that will only come out at this time of year.
And don’t forget your placements and coasters too. Not only will they look beautiful and festive, but they’ll also protect your table from the inevitable gravy drips and wine drops!
Fairy lights
Who said that twinkly lights were only for the tree? LED lights can be purchased in various lengths and sizes of bulbs, so if you’re looking for something delicate to drape over a mirror, or attach to a garland you have on your mantlepiece, fairy lights are a really special addition to any room and give it a festive feel. You don’t even have to take them down when Christmas is over!

I like your suggestion of going classic in your decorations. I can remember so many things we did YEARS ago to go on our tree. Kids are missing out on those memories

For the last few years I have been downsizing my decorations to the ones that I love & simple to put up. My tree this year is a table top with hand made decorations. SO much simpler & makes me less stressed.

We can’t do the outside (we’re in an apartment), but the inside tips are great! Especially handcrafted decorations…nice to get the kids and grandkids involved. It means so much more than just buying everything in the stores.

I love decorating for the holiday but it almost seems like a waste as we spend the holidays away from home. I definitely appreciate when my mom decorates everything in her house to enjoy for the holidays though!
