If you’re wondering Why Your Child Loves Some Subjects And Hates Others here are some great reasons why.
Why Your Child Loves Some Subjects And Hates Others
Do you ever find it curious that your child loves maths and hates science? Maybe your kid likes English class a thousand times more than geography? If it’s always a struggle to get them to complete one class’ homework over another, it’s generally a sign there’s a strong preference in place! But what causes these loves and hates to come about? It’s a good idea to answer this question, especially if your child refuses to listen or becomes disruptive in the classes they like the least. The more you know, the better you can support their learning.
We All Have Different Brains
No two brains are the same. They may look like it on a scan sheet, but in reality they’re nowhere near. And while we all have the same brain parts that work together to get our bodies moving and our minds thinking, each person has their own personality, temperament, and style of thinking.
It’s these differences that make us so interesting as a species. Even siblings can be wildly different from each other, despite having around 50% of the same DNA! That’s why your daughter may love maths and your son may love history and have wildly different skill levels when it comes to both.
Some Teaching Methods aren’t Effective
We don’t all learn the same. Some people take information in when they’re reading a book. Others may need to do a practical experiment before they wrap their head around what’s going on. However, identifying the best methods for each child takes a lot of time and energy, so most schools use a mix of all at all times.
While this ensures everyone gets the chance to learn, it can mean a child starts hating the class. If the teaching method doesn’t speak to them, they’re not going to understand the content at all!
Don’t panic; your child isn’t missing out. Indeed, you can even try to supplement their learning through online tutoring. If you can find a tutor that uses the specific teaching method that your child follows, they’re still going to pick up everything they need to know for their exams.
The Class Feels Lonely
Some kids hate certain subjects because they have no friends in the class with them. That can make the class feel very lonely; they have no one to laugh with when the teacher makes a joke, and they may always be paired up with someone they don’t know when they have to work in pairs.
Sometimes your child may even feel that no one in that class even likes them, which only impounds the loneliness they’re already feeling. Make sure you talk to them about this. If they seem to get on OK with the course content and haven’t said anything about not liking it, it could be a social factor at fault.
Kids can be complex, and the things they enjoy even more complicated! Celebrate both the school subjects they love and the ones they hate.
