Little Touches to Elevate Your Home
If you’re pretty happy with the way your home looks and feels, but you want to make it just that little bit extra, you’re in luck because it’s actually really easy to elevate your home and give it a more professionally designed, sophisticated look, by adding a few little touches.
If that sounds good to you, let’s take a look at some of the little touches you can bring toy our home right now:
Cover the headboards
Most of us have headboards in our bedrooms which help to frame the bed and make it more comfortable for us to sit up in bed and read a book or chat to our spouse before we head off to dreamland. Most of these headboards could be improved with a simple tweak, namely recovering them in expensive, stylish fabrics, Whether you go for a British touch with some William Morris print fabric, or you recover an old headboard with panelled leather for a traditional look, expensive fabrics, which can be stapled to the headboard is an easy way to bring a touch of style and elegance to any bedroom space.
Upgrade the hardware
The hardware in your home is everywhere. It’s every door knob, window handle, cupboard pull, and door knocker. So, a really good way to elevate your home and bring a more sophisticated note to your space, is to remove all those old pieces of hardware and replace them with something a bit more special, whether it’s the best UK solid-brass fittings you can find, or ornamental metal versions that feature flowers and birds – whatever fits with your taste most. Your home will look much more intentionally designed if you do.
Plant power
Another really easy way to elevate your space is to bring in some greenery and bursts of bright color in the form of plants. Not only do plants add shape, style and texture to your home in their own right, but you can display them in attractive pots that are gilded or glazed in bright colors, for example, which adds an extra design touch all of their own. The right houseplants will even clean the air, so your home will smell fresher, and be healthier for you to live in, too. Try to place at least one plant in every room and your home will look and feel great, providing you take good care of them to keep them healthy, of course!
Change your lighting
When it comes to setting the tone of your home, you lighting matters more than you might think, It is the thing that brings ambiance in the evenings, so you need it to be on point if you want your home to feel cozy, warm and welcoming, This means ditching those bright, fluorescent white bulbs, for something with a softer, more amber glow. This soft light will hide a multitude of sins and ensure that your home always looks like an inviting place when the sun goes down, especially when paired with nicer light fittings, whether it be brass wall lights of pretty ceramic lamps with soft velvet shades. You do you, but do it with better, softer, lighting.
Give the shelves and surfaces some TLC
We all have a lot of stuff these days, well unless you happen to be a minimalist, I suppose, so most of us have lots of shelves and surface spaces that are filled with everything from books and ornaments to photographs of loved ones. There is nothing wrong with this, and it adds a personal touch to your space, but if you’re looking to elevate your home, then it can often be a good idea to tweak these shelves and surfaces, rearranging your stuff so that it looks a bit more designer.
For example, you could rearrange your bookshelves by color, so they create a pleasing rainbow arrangement, or start grouping your ornaments in sets of three, which is an interior design touch that is more pleasing to the eye. Experiment, see what looks good for you, and if you can, reduce the clutter just a bit a too much stuff can look a little messy if you aren’t careful.
Consciously clean
Speaking of cleaning the clutter away, one of the best ways to elevate your home, which will cost you nothing, but change the look og your home completely, is to take a weekend ot consciously clean your home. What does that mean/ It means really looking at your space and working out what in it you really want, need or love, and then ditching the rest. It means clearing away the clutter, and then seriously cleaning your home so that it is refreshed, sparkling, smells great, and really lets everything you have kept shine. Yes, it will take some elbow grease, but it will be totally worth it when your home feels like a whole new place!
Rearrange the furniture
Sometimes, the stuff you have in your home is perfect already, but you just haven’t got it in the right place, to let it, or the rest of your space shine. This means that you can often elevate your home by simply moving the furniture around to find the optimum place for it to live. Moving your sofa or rearranging your tables can make the room more light and spacious, and improve the flow throughout the space, so again, although you may need to experiment to find what works best, give it a try and you might just be pleasantly surprised.
