It seems impossible that you can age without getting old, but it’s all about how you look at it. Aging is inevitable, but getting old is optional in terms of your physical, mental, and emotional state. If you know the calendar moves forward no matter what, but you want to have as many wonderful experiences in those years as possible, here are some helpful tips for how to age without getting old:
Redefine the Meaning of Old
As a society, we tend to associate aging with decline. However, many people who survive to a very old age don’t just ‘survive,’ they stay active by prioritizing movement in aging, remain socially connected, eat mostly whole foods, and contribute to their communities. Rather than old age simply being about looking old, such as wrinkles and gray hair, it tends to be about withdrawal. If you stay engaged, you can stay youthful.
Build and Protect Muscle
We need muscle mass. It’s important for bone density, boosting metabolism, and reducing the risk of falls. It’s easy to assume that our bodies will take care of it naturally, but we start losing muscle mass after the age of 30 through sarcopenia. This describes the age-related, progressive loss of muscle mass, strength, and function that begins after age 30 and accelerates after age 60.

Prioritize Quality Sleep

As tempting as it can be to be a night owl and an early riser, it’s not doing your body any good. Getting seven to nine hours of sleep every night is a powerful anti-aging tool.
