Hate your garage? Here is how to change it with creative storage solutions and stylish decor ideas to enhance the space.
Hate Your Garage? Here’s How To Change It
Garages can be a bit of a sore spot for a lot of homeowners. They’re a hard room to try and make aesthetically pleasing, what with the big family car just set in the middle of the space.
The garage door also needs plenty of room to operate, and that limits your options on lighting, shelving, and even the wallpaper you want to go for.
And because of that, any decor, styling, and other items are usually fitted around the main function of the room.
Even if the car rarely makes it into the garage, the fact that it’s a space designed to store a car securely means that garages have very little appeal, inside or out!
But what if you could change that? You can! Here are a few ideas to consider.
Rethink Your Storage Layout
Garages are usually used as excess storage rooms, whether or not your car can actually fit in there. And why not? It’s a spare room that isn’t really suitable for anything else without a proper conversion.
However, that doesn’t mean your garage storage should be all over the place. And if you’re getting a bit tired of the way the clutter has been piled high, you definitely need to rethink the storage layout.
Try to use more vertical storage to help get things off the ground, for one. This also allows you to store bigger, more clunky items (like bikes or garden tools) in a neat and organized way. They’re not just shoved into a corner to make do!
Make it Flow into the Garden
If your garage is bordered by your back garden, why not think about getting a new door fitted into that back wall? Or maybe even a set of french doors that let you open up the space?
If you can then fit some decking or a patio down on the other side, your garage will feel more like an outdoor room that flows from one to the other.
And in the summer, that’s a great way to let some cool air into the house, what with back gardens usually benefiting from more shading than anything front facing.
Invest in a Remodel
Exterior remodelling is often the best choice for a garage that looks totally bland and boring from the outside. All kinds of features can be attached, from new brickwork or siding, to a whole new facade with windows. And the same could be possible for your garage!
The most beautiful homes incorporate the garage into the rest of the exterior decor, and don’t just let it sit attached to a house like it was forgotten about on the floor plan.
And no matter if it’s literally just a cube on the side of your house, or is even taking up the middle of your home’s curb appeal, there’s a remodeling project just waiting to happen!
Garages don’t have to ruin your home’s aesthetic. Make the space suit you with tips like those above.
