5 Tips for Staying with Young Kids in a Hotel Stress-Free
You did it! You booked a summer vacation for your family. And whether you’re going to Disney or visiting family, there’s nothing more fun than seeing the world with your kids. That is until the day’s travel or adventures are over and you’re in the hotel with an overly fussy and tired toddler.
It is beyond common for kids to be stressed out in hotels, especially if they’re younger. So, what are some of the best tips to ensure that you and your child’s hotel stay is stress-free? Read on to find out!
Get the Biggest Room Possible
The last thing you want during your trip is to be stuck in a tiny room with a stressed toddler. It may save money, but the headaches will make up for that very quickly. To combat this, ask for the largest room when booking. If you are visiting Branson, Missouri, for example, there are resorts such as Westgate Branson that will be more than happy to accommodate your request. This will give your child(ren) space to explore and room to move around in should they get tired and begin crying. It may cost a bit more, but it’ll be worth it!
Child-Proof the Room
There are very few hotels and resorts that come with built-in baby or toddler-proofing. So, you will need to pack some bits that will prevent your kids from coming to harm in the hotel room. These include plug covers, corner shields and even locks for any cupboards that you may have in the room. After all, young kids get into all kinds of places, even on vacation, so make sure the room is safe for them to explore.
Pack Their Favorite Snacks
When you’re out and about, you don’t forget your toddler’s favorite snack, so why would you do it if you’re on vacation with them? Make sure you pack enough grapes, apples or whatever their favorite food is for the trip, and then add a few more snacks just to be on the safe side. This will help them to feel safe and secure during the trip. It will also make sure that you keep your sanity!
Bring a Nightlight
There are few hotels that come with a nightlight built into the room. You could leave the bed lamp on, but that can be distracting. Try to use a plug-in nightlight, which you can position next to their travel cot. This will, again, help them to destress at the end of the day and prevent them (and you) from having a rough night’s sleep.
Stick to a Routine
It’s all too tempting to throw your hands up and let routine be thrown out the window while you’re on vacation, but that almost always backfires when you have kids. They need a routine to regulate their sleep and ensure that they have enough energy to have fun each day. So, try your best to stick to their naps and bedtimes, along with their eating times. You know your child best, so you’ll see when they’re overstimulated and need a break. Cut yourself a break and keep your plans flexible. You little one or littles ones sort of run the show, but don’t worry, kids can also be somewhat flexible and adjust to new routines. Just pack your patience and go with the flow.
