Cope With Pain and Discomfort during Pregnancy

Finding out you are expecting is an exciting time in your life. While your body will stretch and give to accommodate your growing baby, many times you will deal with changes, perfectly normal, that can cause you to tire easily, bring on morning sickness and distorted weight gain. The good news is that for the most part, these changes are temporary. However, there are things you can do during your pregnancy to make you more comfortable and have a fit body afterward.


Even early on you will notice that you get tired more easily. This is because your body is going through changes. The supply and demand increases as your blood delivers essential nutrients to not only you but your growing baby. Some people remain a little tired throughout the entire nine months. However, it’s more common in the first and third trimesters. Initially, your emotions can increase your fatigue with the stress of the planning involved. Once you get things in order and become prepared your emotional levels will return to normal. Making a list of the things you need to accomplish before the arrival of your little one will ease your mind and allow you to sleep. Towards the end, it becomes difficult to get comfortable in a typical bed due to the size of your stomach. And, even getting up from a sitting position on the couch can take a toll on you. Stretch Marks

Some women have a larger area to accommodate a growing baby and thus the skin doesn’t expand as much. Others, on the other hand, have a smaller space forcing the skin to expand further. Stretch marks are common to most women who bear children. Luckily, you don’t have to have any many or even show signs afterward that you had them. Keeping the skin moisturized as your belly, your thighs, derriere and your breasts grow larger can keep them at a minimum. Other ways to reduce stretch marks is to maintain a healthy diet to control excessive, unnecessary weight gain and drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated and establishing a wholesome diet early one will keep your body healthy and fit during the pregnancy.

Eating for Two

It’s perfectly normal to gain weight when you are pregnant. After all, you have a baby inside you that’s growing. However, there is no reason to eat for two. Maintaining a healthy weight is different for everyone. There’s a lot of things each person has that can change the range of weight that’s ideal for them. Your height, frame, and genetics all play a role in how much weight you will gain. However, when you consume twice as much as your body requires, you are not only putting you in danger but, also your unborn child. The extra weight can make you unable to get around, walk or even stand for more than a few minutes. Eating smaller portions more frequently can prove a better choice, especially if you have random cravings. Eating more often can also help reduce morning sickness symptoms. And, after you deliver, if you’ve gained a tremendous amount of weight you may deal with emotional distress from not looking the way you want.


While you may think now is not the time to get into shape, it’s a perfect time. Light to moderate exercise will keep you and your baby healthy, alleviate constipation, keep you flexible and after the delivery allow you to return to your original weight sooner. A low-impact workout, walking, and swimming are all good forms of exercise to keep you fit.

Having a baby is a wonderful time in a woman’s life. You can enjoy the pregnancy and bonding time with your developing baby if you make a few changes to your diet, exercise, drink plenty of water and get the proper amount of rest.

    This is such a helpful post for women, very good points to make! Now that I have three kids, I can honestly say that I did not do it right my first pregnancy. I worked basically the entire time on my feet as a waitress, and near the end a hostess. I definitely took it easier for my last two pregnancies and could tell the difference.
